The digital services provider has announced the launch of the Self-Service Hadoop platform, in response to the high adoption rates of the Hadoop ecosystem and of Big Data technologies in enterprises.

Developed in partnership with software provider MAPR, the generic software platform standardises the infrastructure requirements with respect to any field of application while making access easy.

Jérôme Sandrini, Vice-President Big Data Software and Atos Professional Services, said: "Thanks to the combination of MAPR’s distribution of Hadoop, which is entirely designed to meet the requirements of enterprises, and a software base for automatic deployment developed by Atos, Hadoop Self-Service enables the implementation of a Big Data platform on all types of infrastructure without the need to take their specific characteristics into account.

"Clearly, the solution is independent of the infrastructure."

With Hadoop Self-Service, a Big Data application environment can be made available very rapidly and administered by the IT department.

Deployment, which can be achieved with a few clicks, will automatically make available new Big Data environments to project teams, and therefore limit the need to resort to expert skills, that are difficult to find and costly, with each new project or deployment.

The platform can be used to provision Hadoop working environments on a private cloud or a private data center or even a public cloud.

Xavier Guerin, VP EMEA Alliances and MapR Partners, said: "Atos designed and developed a tool for automating platform components from top to bottom, in order to streamline the deployment of a Big Data platform by setting up a self-service and expandable model that integrates the areas of responsibilities of the various enterprise players: the research and development teams, the systems architects and the operations teams."
