Siemens AG has added its openUTM and openFT middleware products to the growing portfolio of software that it has ported to the Linux operating system. OpenUTM and openFT are already, according to Siemens middleware product manager, Bill Smith highly heterogeneous products, available on a raft of operating systems, including NT, a full spectrum of Unix flavors, AS/400 and OS/390. Adding Linux support is seen as a logical extension of this ‘run them on anything’ policy, and complements the companies existing support for the open source environment, which has already seen it fully certify Linux on its Primergy range of Intel servers. Pricing is expected to be in line with Siemens’ established per potential user supported per processor-based licensing policy. We have no intention of making these products public domain, said Smith.
