Santa Cruz Operations Inc will soon set up an office in India. The firm has a 40% share of the Unix server market in India, but needs a presence on the ground there to grow it further. An office is the need of the business now. The company will be appointing a country manager and will hire the required workforce this year, said RN Raja, SCO’s director for South East Asia. SCO has had a dominant share of the small and medium enterprise market in India, but is now facing severe competition from Microsoft Corp’s Windows NT. SCO is also launching a technology exchange program in India, where it will share technologies in network computing, internet commerce and universal application servers with developers in India.
