Netscape Communications Corp, seeking to quickly add all the necessary elements to make its web site a fully-fledged member of the portal community, has gone to America Online Inc exclusively for local content on its Netcenter. Netscape and Excite Inc continue to have a close relationship as Excite provides all the other channels for Netcenter, as well as a co-branded search engine. And until this deal is complete, Netscape will continue to borrow – its word – a local channel from Excite to plug the hole. The Netcenter local channel will now be a co-branded effort between the two companies and will be available within 60 days, says Netscape. AOL will get the local advertising revenues, while Netscape will take the national ad sales within the service, but they were not revealing what the revenues might be.
