Savant Corp, the database performance diagnostics company, has moved beyond its Oracle Corp focus and signed a strategic partnership with Sybase Inc. Savant was formed in 1995 as an early entrant in performance diagnostics, and launched its first production products in March 1997. It focused on tools for the Oracle user base and application environments, though always said it was considering support for both Sybase and Microsoft Corp’s SQL Server.

The Savant Q Diagnostic Center product will be integrated with Sybase’s Adaptive Server Enterprise database under the new deal, providing a self-managing, early-warning system anticipating availability issues and performance bottlenecks before they impact business processes. The tool offers a real-time, illustrated view of the database and application operations. The integrated version is due to ship in the second half of the year.

Bethesda, Maryland-based Savant is promising to enter into the wider network event management market this year with a product it calls QSensor, providing diagnostics across databases, operating systems, network devices and client desktops. QSensor will be released soon said the company.
