China has stepped up the development and manufacturing of local software while cracking down on pirated products according to Qiu Xiaoling, deputy-director of the Ministry of Science and Technology’s Computer Software Department. He said eight regional software development centers set up by the ministry and backed by dozens of large computer firms have been turning out a range of new copyrighted products.
