Verio Inc has bought two more Florida companies, adding Orlando- based MagicNet Inc and Clearwater-based PacketWorks to its fold. Last week the company bought Boca Raton’s Hiway Technologies Inc for $330m (CI No 3,463). This latest pair of acquisitions is fairly small by Verio standards. The company picked up the two for a trifling $4.16m. Verio says it seeks to acquire small local ISPs. The company then tries to maintain their intimate service while building a national backbone and delivering industrial- strength products. The idea is to give small to mid-sized business subscribers the best of both worlds: the convenience of a local ISP combined with the strength of a national firm.
