Security technology company McAfee has added new features to its Network Security Platform which the company claims to double the performance of its intrusion prevention system (IPS) for datacentres.

The upgraded Network Security Platform includes a scalable 80 Gbps IPS application that delivers twice the performance capability of other network IPS applications available.

It also offers advanced threat protection across physical, virtual and cloud environments and addresses the needs of private clouds in datacentres, Telco core networks and service provider networks.

McAfee Network Security Platform XC Cluster scales to 80 Gbps throughput and 32 million concurrent connections, the company said.

The upgraded release includes granular multi-tenancy options that are built for service provider environments can create up to 1000 virtual IPS policies per appliance, with granular policy control in each rule-set capability, including features for mobile service providers, allowing management of network policies for separate customers or services.

McAfee’s new release also includes native inspection of virtual environments through the VMware vShield API. Enforce policy regardless of where the VM physically resides, allowing organisations to leverage native VCenter tools to integrate network security within virtual environments.

A new Network Threat Behavior Analysis virtual appliance extends IPS with enhanced visibility, leveraging the network’s Flow data, including layer 7 information, to give context to IPS threats.
