Intel Corp’s problems with its ill-starred Camino 820 chipset rumble on. The company is insisting that it will have an 820 that works available by the end of the year. However, at the moment, the company is still looking for a solution. We’re trying to determine what works, admitted Intel chipset spokesperson, Dan Francisco. Because the problem relates to the third RIMM memory slot – which behaves unreliably, whether it is used or not – Intel could issue a two RIMM version of the board. Francisco said that this was certainly an option. However, we wonder how much of a performance hike – if any – a two RIMM Rambus board would provide over current Intel designs. Whatever happens, the board is likely to be released as the 820E. The same prefix that Intel used when it issued a stabilized version of the 810 chipset.
