Web2PCS.com Inc has joined the Phone.com Inc Alliance program in the hopes of speeding integration of its wireless content and applications with Phone.com’s wireless browser. The Web2PCS portal is designed to provide mobile subscribers with the sorts of free services and utilities available through Yahoo.com: quick message, email and so forth. Still to come: instant messaging, wireless games, calendar synchronization and a wireless application protocol (WAP) search engine. The advantages of working with Phone.com are becoming increasingly clear. Phone.com’s microbrowser is built to run on mass-market devices, and the company predicts that by 2003, more than half of 1 billion cell-phones will be connected to the internet. A prime mover behind the creation of WAP, Phone.com intends to claim a large slice of that market for itself.
