Intel Corp has invested an undisclosed amount in Homestead Technologies Inc, a Menlo-Park, California-based online community company. Homestead, which gained $4.5m in its first round of venture funding back in June, has launched a free service – Homestead.com – enabling users to collaboratively create and publish web sites. The web site editor runs as a Java applet within a web browser. But its longer-term interest is in tools for small-business e-commerce and corporate intranets. Homestead has over 50 employees. Its initial funding round was provided by a group of investors led by Draper Fisher Jurvetson, the Silicon Valley venture finance firm.
