Storage Management firm Veritas Software Corp has slammed rival Legato Systems Inc’s announcement of Storage Area Network (SAN) plans (see separate story). Chris Boardman, a spokesperson for Veritas, said that Legato’s plans were following in the Mountain View, California-based firm’s footsteps. In particular, Boardman said that the SAN backup software and Sun Microsystems’ Solaris 32 node cluster support (CI No 3,502) in particular, were what he characterized as me too announcements. Broadman claimed that Veritas had the standard for disk management software and the way that data was written to disk on NT and Unix. He highlighted the recent release of tape library application programming interfaces (APIs) by Veritas and Storage Technology Corp (CI No 3,572) as an example of example of Veritas taking the lead in storage management software.
