Alongside its major product launches this week, Informix Corp made a cluster of other announcements at its Worldwide User Conference in Seattle. Top of the list was the release of a scalable, 64-bit version of its flagship database product, Dynamic Server, for Hewlett Packard Corp’s HP-UX 64-bit operating environment. Informix said it would work with SAP and HP to deliver SAP’s R/3 products on the 64-bit platform. On the object relational front, the California-based software company announced a new DataBlade technology designed to enable developers to quickly transform complex spatial data objects into three-dimensional views. Informix said this would enable users to analyze and manipulate data that would previously have been very difficult to uncover. Called the Formida Fire Spatial DataBlade module, the product was developed as a module for Dynamic Server database with the Universal Data Option- Informix’s optional object relational add-on. The company also announced an agreement with IBM that it says will allow customers to more easily define and manage transaction processing applications in distributed environments. By certifying its DS database on IBM’s TXSeries (middleware that simplifies transactions across complex networks), users can better manage distributed transaction environments, for example, e-commerce or Web-based transactions.
