Document management company Interleaf Inc is beefing up its BladeRunner product by acquiring Swedish outfit Texcel International AB, which provides XML-enabled content management software. Interleaf plans to use TexcelÆs Information Manager product to provide a web-centric desktop environment for Bladerunner. No value was given for the acquisition but Interleaf expects it to be accretive to earnings within the first year of combined operations.

Interleaf president and CEO Jaime Ellertson said the acquisition, with the addition of Texcel’s engineers, would enable the company to deliver a stronger XML-based content management software earlier than planned.

Interleaf followed rival Abortext by announcing an XML-based content management system in November 1998 (CI No 3,536) but the acquisition of Texcel’s established technology is designed to give them a clearer competitive advantage – and a new customer base.
