Apple Computer Inc may still be searching for its own chief executive officer, but plenty of other firms have found their own chief executives from those who’ve left Apple. The San Francisco Examiner ran an article on Apple’s Fallen Fruit in its Sunday edition, and counted up over two dozen formed Apple executives who are now running their own companies. They include Gaston Bastiens of Lernout & Hauspie Speech Products Inc, Michael Boich of Rendition Inc, Bill Campbell of Intuit Inc, Guerrino DeLuca of Logitech Inc, Jean Louis Gassee of Be Inc, Trip Hawkins of 3DO Inc, Peter Hirshberg of Elemental Software Inc, Bill Larson of Network Associates Inc, Steve Perlman of Microsoft Corp’s Web TV Networks Inc, Don Strickland of PictureWorks Inc and Del Yocam of Borland International Inc. That doesn’t include others in leading positions at major companies, such as Bud Colligan of Macromedia Inc, Donna Dubinsky of 3Com Corp subsidiary Palm Computing, Jerry Devlin of 3Com, David Nagel of AT&T Labs and Bud Tribble of Sun Microsystems Inc, not to mention Steve Jobs, CEO of Pixar Animation Studios Inc – but then again, he’s still at Apple. The search for Apple’s own chief continues. After seven months the field has now been whittled down to a few candidates and a decision is expected within 30 to 45 days according to reports. Speculation intensified when Apple postponed its planned annual meeting on February 3rd. It now plans to hold the meeting some time in mid-April, the company told Reuters.
