The UK’s Imperial Software Technology Ltd’s Visaj Java interface builder has been accorded 100% Java. Imperial is selling it on the web using an in-house developed ecommerce system called Navajo that enables it to issue time-limited usage authentication over and monitor the whole evaluation and sales cycle. It wonders whether it might sell that as well. Meantime version 5 of its X- Designer X-Windows interface builder now supports JDK 1.1 and has enhanced support for generating Windows interfaces. It claims users can build an application front-end in Motif, Windows and Java and have all three talk to the same application back end on a local or remote machine. The GUI callbacks can reference URLs and manipulate MIME and HTML. X-Designer 5 also exports Motif interfaces to Visaj 2.0 – or Sun’s Java Workshop – for those moving to Java. Sun will ship the 5.0 release of X-Designer as a future release of its Visual WorkShop for C++.
