The chief executive of Java processor company Patriot Scientific Corp, Michael Carenzo, has resigned from the company to pursue family business opportunities on the east coast of the US, where he is from. Carenzo has been with the company just over 18 months, and will be replaced with James Tunney, currently president of Signal Processing Systems (SPS). Prior to that Tunney held management positions at Scientific Atlanta and two divisions of General Electric. San Diego-based Patriot described Tunney as a salesman and somebody with business development skills, which is what the company needs in order to attract licensees to its PSC1000 Java processor technology. Carenzo will stay on until the end of next month and will remain on the board and effectively run the company’s soon-to-be east coast-based plasma antenna and radar businesses, which apparently was what attracted Carenzo to the company in the first place. Patriot’s main business is its PSC1000 Java processor, which is currently in the hands of various companies for evaluation with a view to licensing. These apparently include IBM Corp and Motorola Inc. In explaining his departure, the company pointed to the difficulty of Carenzo’s wife commuting back and forth, Carenzo never really putting any roots down in the San Diego area and the fact that he doesn’t really have to work anymore anyway. Patriot vows to have one or more contracts announced before Carenzo heads east, as his swan song.
