Atos Origin has successfully passed the first Technical Rehearsal for the IT infrastructure that will manage this summer’s Olympic Games, being held in London.
The French IT services firm said the test was run alongside the London Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games (LOCOG) and other technology partners and is the first of two scheduled rehearsals.
The tests covered the Games IT, communications, media, sports and technology security systems, Atos said in a statement.
Over 300 workers took part in the test, which simulated what would happen during different periods of the Games. It was designed to test the tech team’s ability to respond to any incident that may occur during the event.
Michele Hyron, Chief Integrator for London 2012, Atos, said the tests are the most comprehensive ever undertaken before a Games.
"By the end of the testing phase, we will have undertaken more than 200,000 hours of meticulous testing of the IT system for London 2012, which will process 30% more information than at any other Games in history," she said. "The completion of the first technical rehearsal shows that our team of Business Technologists are very much on course."
When the Games kick off in July, there will be 3,500 technology specialists working to keep IT systems going, along with 900 servers, 1,000 network and security devices and more than 10,000 computers.
"You cannot underestimate the important role technology will play in the successful delivery of London 2012," added Sebastian Coe, Chairman, London 2012. "With the first operational readiness test now complete, the final preparations for the Games are well underway and we are confident that the massive testing programme of the LOCOG technology team, Atos and the other technology partners will deliver a fitting Games-time experience."
