Intel Corp has made its latest investment in privately held Persistence Software Inc, the transactional application server company from San Mateo, California. As usual, financial details were not disclosed. Persistence will work with Intel to tune and optimize the performance and scalability of its PowerTier transactional application server for the Pentium III Xeon processor, and in the future, for the IA-64 Merced processor. PowerTier application serves come in version supporting Enterprise Java Beans or C++.
We want to continue to increase the adoption rate for Intel-based servers to power the next generation of e-commerce, said Alan Holzman, Intel’s Technical Director for Middleware and Enterprise Integration. We’re investing in companies like Persistence to fuel the development of high-powered application server solutions based on the Intel architecture.
Persistence completed its third round of funding in September 1998, raising an additional $7.2m. Other investors include Amerindo Investment Advisors, Nexus Group, Piper Jaffray, the Entrepreneur’s Fund, and Cisco Systems Inc. The company was founded in 1991.
