PC maker Micron Electronics has announced it will be realigning its business in order to provide a more effective focus on key customer segments. The Nampa, Idaho company has formed three business units to concentrate on consumers and small businesses, commercial customers and public sector clients. Micron has appointed three senior vice presidents and general managers to head the new units. The new appointments include David Burcham as boss of Consumer and Small Business; Harry Heisler for Public Sector business and Judith Bitterli as the head of the Commercial and Online sales unit. Micron said it has made much progress recently in streamlining its business for optimal results from its direct business model. To date, it has concentrated its efforts on reducing inventories, lowering expenses and becoming more competitive in the area of pricing. The new business units come as the second part of the overall plan; to focus strongly on the company’s marketing and service infrastructure. In March, Micron reported a second-quarter operating loss of $108.4m that was hit by inventory write-downs and a $13m charge for the reduction of its staff by 10% (CI No 3,369). Analysts surveyed by First Call expect net income of $0.04 per share for the company’s third quarter, which ended May 31, and Micron has yet to issue a warning, something its has done two quarters in a row.
