EMC Corp says HDS’s arguments against it – see separate story – are without technical merit and that HDS has been trotting out the same story for years. EMC says it doesn’t need mirrored cache because it has built multiple redundancies into its software.

Meanwhile, EMC says it’s not worried by the crop of server appliance companies coming up to try and nibble its market. It has its own Celerra offering designed for NAS network attached storage in workgroups for use as filers or streaming media.

EMC wants to make it clear that it did in fact do the $200m revenue it had predicted selling storage on Hewlett-Packard Co systems during the second quarter just closed. However it thinks it missed a further $15m it would likely have done on HP, because it doesn’t have enough presence all geographies. EMC said its did $70m of the $200m through HP’s sales, the rest through indirect VARs or with its own salesforce.

EMC notes it took Citibank six years to amass 75Tb storage. Excite has bought in 30Tb of EMC storage in less than 18 months and is expected to double that in the very near future.
