IBM Corp, which for years brought its staff up in an atmosphere of grim conformity, has suddenly decided to promote its people. Open any newspaper in the UK in the coming weeks and there will be a cheerful and stylish IBM employee in an advertisement offering to sort out your system problems, deter hackers and make you a fortune in the e-commerce business. IBM has always been a world of feuding fiefdoms. So its scarcely surprising that IBM Global Services sounds almost hurt that, while it claims to be bigger than competitors like EDS, CSC and Andersen Consulting, it is a lesser known part of the group. Under the slogan ‘People who think, People who do’ the folk at services are finally getting the recognition they think they deserve.
