Enterprise Linux applications provider SUSE has released an updated version of managed client-server Linux application, SUSE Linux Enterprise Point of Service 11 Service Pack 2 (SP2).
The new client-server Linux application, which has been built using SUSE Linux Enterprise 11 SP2 platform, is designed to fulfill the retail industry requirements.
It also enables retailers to reduce in-store and data centre costs while increasing security and reliability.
SUSE Linux Enterprise Point of Service will create, launch and maintain operating system images for a variety of POS devices via a centralised directory-based administration server and point of service (POS) branch servers, as well as tools and templates .
The security enhancements of the new application will enable administrators to build Payment Card Industry Data Security Standards (PCI DSS) compliant systems through full disk encryption on terminals for both data and root partitions.
IT administrators can use the integrated Subscription Management Tool to centrally manage software updates within the firewall on a per-system basis as well as maintain corporate security policies and regulatory compliance.
Reliability enhancements include RAID 1 support on the image-based terminals and now SUSE Linux Enterprise Point of Service Pre-boot Execution Environment (PXE) images can be mirrored on each terminal.
