Graphics Properties Holdings, formerly known as Silicon Graphics, has filed separate lawsuits against Apple, Sony, HTC, LG Electronics, Samsung Electronics and Research In Motion alleging that their mobile phones and other devices have infringed on one of its patents.
The patent relates to a computer graphics process that turns text and images into pixels to be displayed on screens.
According to the lawsuits filed in the US District Court in Wilmington, Delaware, the infringing devices include Apple’s iPhone, HTC EVO4G, LG Thrill, Research in Motion Torch, Samsung Galaxy S and Galaxy S II, and Sony Xperia Play smartphones, according to Reuters.
According to Graphics Properties, unless the alleged infringements are halted, the company will suffer irreparable harm.
The lawsuits, besides seeking to stop the sale of infringing products, also seek reasonable royalties and other damages.
Graphics Properties, which is now owned by private funds and institutional investors, still licenses intellectual property used in the graphics, computer processing and display segments.
