Apple has announced that it was planning to increase its investment in China as its CEO visited Beijing on Monday.

It is his first trip to China since he took over as the CEO of the company.

Mr. Cook also seeks to clear the air over the labour problems in Foxconn plant, where its iPads and iPhones are manufactured.

Since China is the world’s largest mobile market and Apple’s second-biggest market overall, his visit attains importance for the company.

Also important is the fact that Apple has lost ground to Samsung Electronics in smartphones and is yet to introduce the latest version of its iPad in the world’s second largest economy.

Though Apple is embroiled in a legal dispute with Chinese firm Proview over the ‘iPad’ trademark in the world’s most populous country, two large mobile carriers in China Telecom and China Unicom have been able to sell bring iPhones to that country early this month.

But, Cook would be looking to have a tie up with China Mobile, the biggest mobile carrier there, to gather even a larger market share.
