Security company Symantec has signed an agreement to acquire mobile application management (MAM) provider Nukona.

The acquisition enables Symantec to include a mobile application protection platform that protects and isolates organisation’s corporate data and applications across both corporate and personal devices.

Nukona will help enterprises distribute, secure and control applications and data without requiring them to manage the devices.

Symantec will enable customers to secure, manage and protect enterprise critical mobile apps and data with policies, including authenticating users, encrypting sensitive files, preventing data leakage and selectively wiping corporate data.

The MAM provider’s ability to protect and control iOS, Android and HTML5 apps will enable Symantec to address the corporate and personal data separation issue without limiting the end-user experience or application adoption.

Symantec Endpoint and Mobility Group senior vice-president CJ Desai said as the adoption of mobile devices and apps continues to grow, one of the challenges for customers is to protect and manage the native apps, data and environments of these devices.
