Oxford, UK-based software firm Numerical Algorithms Group has licensed its proprietary version of the standard LAPACK (Linear Algorithm Package) software for use in Intel CorpÆs latest version of its Math Kernel Library. The deal, for an undisclosed sum, is something of a coup for NAG, and is the first time a company as large as Intel has allowed its name to be used in NAG publicity. The software house says it has deals with many other large hardware manufacturers. The LAPACK software allows large problems of up to 4000×4000 value arrays to be processed up to 3.8 times as fast on four processors as on a single processor. NAG boasts this software can scale up to 80 processors on other architectures.
