Unlike most of the rest of the warring anti-virus players Cupertino, California based Trend Micro Inc and Reading, UK-based Integralis Technology Ltd have reached a settlement in their seven-month-old litigation lawsuit. The legal action is understood to involve Integralis’ MineSweeper email virus scanning product and Trend’s Viruswall offering. Under terms of the settlement the companies have signed a technology cross- licensing agreement involving both parties’ technology and patents. Trend will license Integralis its virus detection and removal apparatus for computer networks patent in exchange for certain of Integralis’ content security software and unspecified royalty payments. Server-based virus protection specialist Trend already licenses its technology to the likes of IBM Corp (CI No 3,309) and Lombard Illinois based Internet Dynamics Inc (CI No 3,295). Martyn Webster, founder and group finance director of Integralis commented: legal action was instigated by Integralis following a letter we received from Trend. Trend then put in a counter claim. Both companies refused to comment on any further details of the settlement, saying it would break the terms of a pre-arranged legal agreement.
