Word has it that Qualcomm Inc is considering selling or closing down Eudora Planner and possibly its entire Eudora Software division. Qualcomm told Macosrumors that while Planner is behind expectations, active development will continue on the widely used email client Eudora Pro. Since Qualcomm allied with Microsoft Corp to build an internet-enabled mobile phone last November (CI No 3,532), however, it is believed to have come under pressure to dump Eudora. Add that to Planner’s slipping schedule and the result spells trouble for Eudora Software. Qualcomm is a $3bn telecommunications company. Little wonder if the appeal of running a money-losing internet software division has begun to wane.
