Javelin Systems Inc, the Irvine, California-based provider of open system point-of-sale computer terminals, said Monday that it will acquire Dynamic Technologies Inc, a Philadelphia-based provider of custom internet/intranet software and services, for $15m in cash and stock. Javelin, which mostly caters to the retail and food services industries, says the move is being carried out to boost its position in the latter market and to expand beyond its traditional businesses of providing point-of- sale automation and wide-area networking.

The company says that with the acquisition of DTI, and especially by leveraging its services, it can offer customers the internet- based technology they have been asking for in areas such as supply chain management, application hosting and remote network management. For the 11 months ended March 31, DTI recorded pro forma operating income before taxes of $3m on revenues of $7m. Javelin, meanwhile, has booked net income of $1.9m on revenue of $53m in the trailing 12 months.
