Network Computing Devices Inc (NCD) has agreed in principle to acquire the Network Displays business unit of Tektronix Inc, once a fierce competitor. Network Displays makes Windows-based terminals and network computers, as well as other thin client computing systems and software. Details of the purchase-of-assets transaction were not disclosed. Conveniently enough, the Tektronix unit is located in Beaverton, Oregon, not far from NCD’s Beaverton development facility. Most of the 130 Tektronix employees will be asked to join NCD after the transaction closes in December. áTektronix got into the network terminals business via X-terminals it marketed as cheaper alternatives to graphics workstations. That business grew out of its old proprietary graphics terminal business.
