Bank United in Texas has become the first bank in the US to substitute retinal recognition for pin number authentication to its automated teller machine network. The bank has installed ATMs developed by Diebold Inc in its Dallas, Houston and Fort Worth branches. To use the ATMs, customers have a picture of their eye taken at the bank, then, to get money, they simply look into the ATM. Retinal pattern recognition is considered more reliable than fingerprint recognition, because an Iris has 266 different variables, whereas a fingerprint has 35.
