Nintendo Co has reported a group net profit for the fiscal year ended March 31 that inched up 2.5% to 85.82bn yen ($709.3m) on revenue that rose 7.1% to 572.84bn yen ($4.73bn). At the pretax level, profit for the year was 165.28bn yen ($1.37bn) for the group, up 4.9% from the prior year.

The company said international sales of Nintendo 64 software titles rose to 54.9 million units, up from 38 million the prior year, while domestic N-64 software sales were 9.6 million units, up from 8.0 million. Sales of N-64 game consoles reached 12.1 million units in Japan last fiscal year, up from 11.1 million the prior year. International console sales, meanwhile, fell to 6.8 million units from 8.9 million last year.

For the current year through March 1999, Nintendo is predicting overall group sales of 590bn yen ($4.88bn), pretax profit of 170bn yen ($1.4bn) and net profit of 93bn yen ($769m). All figures were converted at a rate of 121 yen to the dollar.
