Nvidia Corp responded to Monday’s lawsuit over graphics patents filed by S3 Inc(CI No 3,408) by saying that it would be defending itself vigorously. The Sunnyvale, California-based firm says it’s looked at the patents, which S3 acquired earlier this year from Cirrus Logic Inc, and says it believes it has valid defenses to S3’s claims in the complaint. S3 only re-entered the high-end market with the launch of its Savage 3D chip earlier this month after missing a product cycle with its Verge 3D processor (CI No 3,403). Nvidia says that it represents the larges threat to S3’s comeback attempt [so] it’s not surprising they are targeting Nvidia. It’s disappointing that S3 would rather compete in the courtroom than in the market. á
