Wearable speech recognition systems maker Vocollect Inc has teamed with Thompson-Ramo-Wooldridge (TRW) Inc’s Integrated Supply Chain Solutions (ISCIS) business unit to develop a software voice interface for TRW’s MARC warehouse management system for use with Vocollect’s Talkman-OPEN terminal. The companies developed the system to facilitate paperless ‘picking’ – speeding up the ordering and collection of products from within a warehouse. Additionally, operators will have real-time access to customer orders and shipping information. The Talkman-OPEN is one of a range of voice-directed terminals from the Pittsburgh-based Vocollect, whose products are aimed at the car, medical, grocery and refrigeration industries. It operates in either batch or radio frequency (RF) modes. It contains a 2.4Ghz wireless modem which works over a limited area. The unit is about the size of a Sony Walkman and works down to a temperature of -30 C. TRW Inc is a global manufacturing and service company headquartered in Cleveland, Ohio.
