Australia’s second largest software company Solution 6 has finally won a protracted battle to acquire the business of the Canadian company which was known as PC DOCS before it was taken over and absorbed by Hummingbird Communications. Solution 6, a chunk of which was recently acquired by the country’s top telecommunications operator Telstra, agreed to buy the renamed CMS/Data after pursuing it for two years.

The A$46m ($30m) merger creates one of the world’s largest players in practice management software for the time-based professional services industry, giving Solution 6 a stronger hand in the $1.3bn global market for knowledge management. It adds 250 staff in three countries to Solution 6’s headcount and enables the Sydney company to boost its strength in the legal and accounting professions, and add to its internet business. It also gives it a substantial distribution system in the lucrative North American market.
