Commerce One Inc, the e-commerce software company has filed for an initial public offering to raise up to $64.4m before expenses. The company is due to hold a press conference today at the Internet and Electronic Commerce conference in New York, where it is expected to announce price cuts, partnerships and new customers. The Walnut Creek, California-based firm, which has former Sybase Inc founder and ex-boss Mark Hoffman as its chairman and CEO, will use the money for geographic expansion, working capital and acquisitions, among others things. The exact number of shares on offer is yet to be determined and the offer will be underwritten by Credit Suisse First Boston, Donaldson Lufkin & Jenrette and US Bancorp Piper Jaffray.
