Storage Technology Corp has teamed up with privately held online geo-spatial technology developer Core Software Technology to integrate its TerraSoar geo-spatial application with StorageTek’s storage offerings. TerraSoar, developed by Pasadena, California- based CST, is a data warehousing product that enables organizations to integrate their geographic data into an enterprise wide system, which can then be used to manage databases ranging in size from a few thousand records to over 50 million. The collaboration will result in a turnkey data warehousing system that can access spatial data, including images, video and vector maps, via the internet. StorageTek and CST plan to pitch the new offering at a host of industries including utilities, mineral exploration, insurance and government agencies. They will work together selling the product and plan to offer customer specific systems. CST was established in 1990 and employs 50 staff out of three offices in the US. The company got together with StorageTek as a result of a contract the companies had been engaged in in the past. CST spokesperson John Heinsius anticipates its new relationship with StorageTek will enable it to grow, but the company will not rush into anything dramatic, instead preferring to take a more incremental approach over a longer period of time and focusing on the technical side of things. The deal is significant for CST because it will get its hands on StorageTek’s marketing and sales resources, as well as benefiting from its established name and propelling it to wider markets.
