Four Chinese immigrants who founded information technology related firms are featured in Forbes magazine’s list of the 400 richest Americans in 1999. Leading the way is 30-year-old Jerry Yang, founder of internet search engine Yahoo! Yang is ranked the 58th richest American with a net worth of $3.7bn. He is also the youngest billionaire on the list. Software developer Computer Associates’ Charles Wang, 55, is next with $1.6bn and ranked 145th. Not far behind in 185th spot and worth $1.3bn is Gemstar’s Henry Yuen, 51. Yuen invented a coding system which also easing programming of a VCR and Gemstar is also a major fibre optics company. The fourth executive on the list is cybernetics company Global Crossing’s David Lee, 50, who is ranked 373rd with $675m.
