Microsoft Corp believes that sales of Windows CE-based devices will outstrip those of Palm Computing handheld devices by 2001. Harel Kodesh, vice president of Microsoft’s productivity appliances division, said at his keynote speech at the Denver, Colorado Windows CE developers conference this week, that CE will be the standard for the hand-held market by next year, particularly in the areas of health-care management and sales automation. Kodesh’s statements are backed a survey from IDC that suggests that by 2001, Windows CE’s market share could rise to 52% to Palm’s 40% and by 2003, CE will own 70% of the market.
