Bedford, Massachusetts application development software developer, Progress Software Corp has announced its Universal Application Architecture (UAA) will now support MicrosoftÆs DCOM, as well as Corba, messaging protocols. The UAA is a model whereby applications written in any of ProgressÆs development tools are to be stripped down to raw business logic, and then kept on an application server to be treated as Corba or DCOM objects. The final manifestation of UAA will be an integration of Progress Version 9 with its Open Application Server software, and the Java tools it acquired from Apptivity Corp last year. This final part, code-named ‘Vader’ will ship late 1999/early 2000. Vader will support application components built in ProgressÆs fourth generation language or Java, and other languages.
