ICTV Inc, a Los Gatos, California-based company that offers internet access and multimedia content over cable says it has completed its trial with Cox Communications Corp and will begin commercial roll-out of its service over the next two quarters.
Chief executive Welsey Hoffman, speaking at the eTVWorld show in New York City yesterday, said the company was close to completing agreements for trials with about three other cable operators in the US and had signed two deals with operators abroad, but could not name names just yet. ICTV offers internet access, email and content, specializing in local content, via existing cable set-top boxes, competing directly with the likes of WorldGate Communications Inc. The cost of the service is up to the cable operator, says the company. It says that in the Cox trial in Santa Barbara, the 1,400 consumers in the trial were charged $7 a month for five hours, plus $2 per hours during the day and $1 an hour at all other times.
