Network Associates Inc is to inject its enterprise network security and management systems offerings into Latin America, following the formation of an agreement with computer equipment reseller CHS Electronics. Miami-based CHS will distribute Network Associates’ complete line of anti-virus and network security software and services via US subsidiaries in Argentina, Peru, Chile, Mexico, Venezuela, Ecuador, Columbia and Brazil. Latin America is an area widely recognized as having a lack of security leaving systems wide open to attack. According to David Stephen, finance director at anti- virus company Dr Solomon’s, the emerging markets of South America, Asia Pacific and parts of Europe will be the next big growth area for anti-virus and security organizations (CI No 3,329). Santa Clara, California-based Network Associates was formed as a result of the merger between MacAfee Associates Inc and Network General Co (CI No 3,267), and the company will now position itself as CHS’s third largest software product line behind Microsoft Corp and Lotus Development Corp. Terms of the deal have not been disclosed.
