ZTE said it would soon launch a smartphone under its own brand in Germany in 2012 with "ZTE Skate."

ZTE Germany General Manager John Lee announced this at the 8 Seasons in Munich.

Skate has been reportedly well received in the UK, France, Spain and other regions, said the Chinese company.

Lee said in terms of shipped units, reports from market research firms ABI Research, IDC, and Strategy Analytics show that ZTE is the fifth largest handset manufacturer in the world.

Weighing 148g, Skate features a 4.4-inch touch screen with 480 x 800 resolution, 512MB storage, 800 MHz processor, 1400 mAh battery, a built-in 5 megapixel camera, among others.

The storage capacity of the phone can be extended with a microSD card.

It runs the Android OS 2.3.5, or Gingerbread.
