VA Linux Systems Inc has opened ten new offices, one each in New York, Toronto, Dallas, Atlanta, Houston, Chicago, Irvine/Los Angeles, Orlando, Virginia and Wilmington, North Carolina. The Sunnyvale, California-based hardware company is also boasting that sales for its second quarter grew 220%, above the 212% growth rate for Linux predicted by International Data Corp. If that’s not enough boasting for you, VA adds that it has shipped more products in July 1999 than in the whole of its second quarter and that traffic on its Linux.com web site has reached 400,000 page views per day. Chairman and CEO Larry Augustin attributes VA’s success to the demand for hardware to run e- commerce sites. As more and more ‘e-business’ companies embrace Linux and expand, the growth of the internet fuels the Linux movement, he explained. ComputerWire suspects that there’s another Linux-based IPO on the drawing board.
