A professor of cybernetics has turned himself into a cyborg – part man and part machine – and gives a chilling vision of where the world of smart technology may be leading. For the next week, professor Kevin Warwick from Reading university in the UK is walking round with a 64-bit chip sewn under the skin of his arm to turn him into a walking smart card. When he arrives at his department, the door swings open and he gets a Welcome, professor Warwick greeting. Sensors track his position in the cybernetics department and he automatically logs on to his PC. The idea of a man enhanced by a chip has been science fiction so far. Now it is science fact, says professor Warwick.
