Wu Jichuan, head of China’s Ministry of Information Industry, says Chinese companies and government agencies must take more aggressive steps against the millennium bug. He says that many of China’s government departments, including the tax, customs, statistics and weather departments, and business sectors, such as the aviation, petroleum and chemical industries, face an uphill battle in attempting to resolve all the Y2K problems in time. Weak management, a lack of coordination, and insufficient funding all have combined to place these sectors and departments way behind schedule, he said.
