Apple will debut its iPad 3 in the first week in March at an event to be held in San Francisco.

It would be most likely at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, which is Apple’s preferred location for big announcements, according to AllthingsD website.

An Apple spokeswoman declined to comment on the timing of the event.

Reports doing the rounds say that device would be running a much faster chip than iPad 2, but would be similar in form factor to the iPad 2.

It is likely to sport an improved graphics processing unit, with a 2048×1536 retina display screen.

Apple has always chosen to introduce the latest versions of its iPad in the earlier months of the year.

While the iPad 2 was introduced on March 2, 2011, the original iPad was introduced at the end of January 2010.
