The US Senate Judiciary Committee has announced that it will hold another of its entertaining hearings on competition on the high tech industry this week, following its March hearing at which Microsoft Corp chairman and CEO Bill Gates was joined by Sun’s Scott McNealy, Netscape’s Jim Barksdale Great Plains Software’s Douglas Burgum, Dell Computer’s Michael Dell and venture capitalist and journalist Stewart Alsop. The witness for this week’s hearing, which will be held Thursday, July 23 has yet to be finalized or released, but committee chairman and Microsoft bete noire Orrin Hatch said he expects testimony from a number of leading software industry innovators and CEOs. The focus will undoubtedly be Microsoft and its Windows 98 and NT operating system. The hearing is titled Competition in the Digital Age: Beyond the Browser Wars.
