Advanced Micro Devices Inc has launched a 400MHz version of its K6-2 processor for notebook computers. The chip, which runs on 2.2 volts and uses 12 watts of power in use, is a low-end alternative to the recently released K6-III-P. Compaq Computer Corp has announced that it will be using the chips in its new Presario 1600 range of laptops. The processor is available now priced at $187 in 1,000-unit quantities.
